Lightbreaker Progress
My current editing pass on my WIP Lightbreaker is almost wrapped up! I wrote TWO bonus chapters inspired by beta reading feedback. These are steamy scenes (hence the steamy fantasy romance theme of this newsletter!) and I think they are great capstone scenes for the emotional arc between these two characters (really trying not to spoil anything, ha!)
I have heard back from my copy editor/proof reader and she can take this manuscript on at the end of the week! Onwards!
I was hoping LB would be ready sooner than this (hello and goodbye September 4th) but I am really proud of the progress on this epic fantasy romance. After I receive the manuscript back from this final editing pass (hopefully this is final!) I will announce a publication date and share pre-order news! We are entering the final laps of this writing and self-publishing marathon!!!
Special Project Announcement!
In the meantime, I have an exciting as of yet Untitled Project announcement that is coming before the end of the year!
I have always wanted to write the “meet-cute” of fan favorite characters Elohaim and Gaspar from Shadowglass Time-Magic, Blood-Magic! This romance has been bumbling around in my head for a while now. I knew it would be a “Yule themed” romance set thousands of years ago, on the longest night of the year (Gaspar needs to avoid sunlight as much as possible!) in a area of the world where sunlight is scarce. After some research I have concluded this romance began in Finnmark Forest, in Norway.
I have almost finished outlining this novella and will begin drafting next week! It feels great to be writing again, and it also feels great that I am embarking on a shorter novella with a much small word count than LB! (Lightbreaker surpassed 128k in this latest edit, every word is worth it though promise!)

Writing & Drafting Software
Here are some of the software and techniques I utilize to begin new projects.
Scrivener - my favorite drafting software, you can keep notes on characters, world-building, even include inspiration photos alongside your word document. Chapters are indexed on the side of your document as well, allowing you to easily skip between chapters when writing, no long bouts of scrolling! Bonus, try before you buy with their free trial software!
The Emotion Thesaurus - a great tool for writers to create characters with realistic emotions and inflection.
A good old fashioned notebook… I love to outline and “thought dump” my story ideas into a notebook. I usually keep this notebook on my desk and refer to it sometimes when drafting. Eventually this info will be input into my editing key for my future editor to know how to spell certain words and what certain words mean in my science-fantasy novels. This front end work helps soooo much in the back end when you are editing for the umpteenth time.
Something new I’m trying: For my upcoming project, the Untitled Christmas Romance, I am going to use Scapple for some world-building and outlining. Look for my full review of this outlining/thought dumping software in an upcoming newsletter!
That’s all for now. Captain the cat and I hope you have a great week!
